You hear me rant and rave about the importance of training in the gym to improve your golf game. The first thing you see and think about is lifting weights. This will 100% help. However, there is a small step before that you might be missing. A step that can be done at home or even before your next round of golf.
What is the step coach?!
Getting Mobile.
Want does "getting mobile" mean?
Here is how I define mobile: Being able to control a full range of motion at a joint.
Not just being flexible... we need control.
Why?
Well, think about our golf swing. we load up and we drive through the swing with power and stop. If we didn't have the control first we would just flap about and not know where we are in the swing.
Once we unlock our mobility. We then add strength followed by power.
The journey to a better golf swing begins with unlocking your mobility. By incorporating mobility exercises, stretches, and drills into your training, you pave the way for improved performance, injury prevention, and overall enjoyment of the game.
So, I want you to give the following four movements a go. Two can be done at the gym and two can be done before your next round.
Get ready to witness the transformation in your swing.
At the gym
Movement 1: Banded Shoulder External Rotation.
3 x 10-12 reps.
Movement 2: Banded Pull & Rotation
3 x 10 reps.
Before your round
Movement 1: Open the book.
3 x 8/side
Movement 2: Alternating Superman.
3 x 8 reps.
